About

The founder of Frog Prince Creative, Inc, Jason Coll, is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama and served as the Creative Director and Associate Artistic Director of Pittsburgh CLO (Civic Light Opera) from 1999-2008.  He was a member of the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop in New York City and the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting.  His creative work with corporate and non-profits includes shows for Caesar's Palace Entertainment, Dollar Bank, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, The Pittsburgh Technology Council, Wrecking Crew Media, The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, The Senator John Heinz History Center and The Frank Lloyd Foundation. 

Jason has directed and music directed numerous productions for the Pittsburgh CLO (Civic Light Opera) including:

A Musical Christmas Carol, The Big Bang, five Richard Rodgers Awards shows honoring Broadway and Hollywood legends Gwen Verdon, Bernadette Peters, Shirley Jones, Rob and Kathleen Marshall and Stephen Schwartz and several Gallery of Heroes musicals for young audiences. He is also the author of eleven original musicals, six of which have been produced by Pittsburgh CLO's Gallery of Heroes Program: Above the Clouds: Pioneers of Flight, Arriba! Arriba! The Roberto Clemente Story, Steel, The Amazingly True Adventures of Nellie Bly, Young Washington, and The Incredibly Innovative Innovators of Pittsburgh.



He co-wrote the musical I Love Gas! with Ted Watts, Jr. for Columbia Gas to promote gas safety to the tri-state area's students and composed the music to the original ballet, Who Owns the Sun? for The Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, which was narrated by James Earl Jones.  He also composed the music to Let's Play, choreographed by Keisha Lalama for the Gus Giordano Jazz Company in Chicago. 

He created the CLO/CMU New Works Program, which unites CMU Drama Students with Broadway caliber directors and writers as they present staged readings of new musicals under the guidance of renowned lyricist and composer Stephen Schwartz. 



Jason and his wife, Lisa Klein, are the creators of a children's television pilot, Write On!, which turns the creative writing of young people into short teleplays. He is also a writer/composer for The Three Sleuths, a live, interactive multimedia show that featured forensic legends Dr. Cyril Wecht, Dr. Henry Lee, and attorney Mark Geragos and their most famous cases at the Paris Hotel and Bally's in Las Vegas.

Jason and Frog Prince Creative provided the Pittsburgh casting for Help Me Help You, written and starring Dr. Ravi Godse as well as Richard Kind, Steve Guttenberg, Sabrina Bryan and Rondell Sheridan, and Jason served as the assistant director on the film. He directed the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Honors at the Guggenheim Museum and most recently wrote and produced a new television pilot, Munhall, starring George Wendt, Tom Atkins, and Manu Narayan.

He was named one of Pittsburgh's "40 Under 40" by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP and also Whitehall Borough's 2012 Citizen of the Year for his contributions to the arts and his community.  Performance credits include shows with Pittsburgh CLO, Bricolage, City Theatre and West Virginia Public.  He recently originated the role of Henry in the world premiere of JUDGE JACKIE JUSTICE at the CLO Cabaret.

 

His new musical NORMAL-C, about three special needs teenagers (co-written with JR Hall) had its world premiere in November 2019 and is looking at several more productions across the country (visit www.normalc.com).  His latest work, BOUND IN BEFORE (Story by Kiesha Lalama and Jacob White, music and lyrics by Jason Coll) had its world premiere at Point Park University in December 2019. 

 

Next up, Jason is writing a new musical experience, a multimedia production featuring the life of Andy Warhol.
